Intuition Deriving the pattern from supply & demand

Step 1 — The trend candle (why long?). A long green candle means buyers overwhelmed sellers: demand ≫ supply on that day. This proves buyers are in control. Why this step? We need evidence of who owns the trend before we bet on continuation.

Step 2 — The three small candles (why small, why against?). After a sharp move, some buyers take profits and short-term traders fade the move. This creates small red candles. But — crucially — the selling is weak: it cannot even push price below candle 1's low. Why this step? If profit-taking were serious, it would break the range. It doesn't → the pullback is just noise, not a fight.

Step 3 — Containment (why must they stay inside candle 1?). Candle 1's range is the "arena" the buyers built. As long as the pullback lives inside that arena, buyers still hold the ground they won. Why this step? This is the filter that separates a healthy pause from a real reversal.

Step 4 — The final long green candle (why must it close above candle 1?). Fresh buyers step in and push to a new close higher than candle 1. This confirms the sellers were exhausted and the uptrend resumes. Why this step? A new higher close = objective proof the pause is over.

So there is no formula to memorise — the pattern is a logical story. But we can define a quantitative rule to test it.

Formula Quantitative test — Rising Three Methods

Let candle $i$ have open $O_i$ , close $C_i$ , high $H_i$ , low $L_i$ . A valid Rising Three Methods requires: $C_1 > O_1 \quad (\text{candle 1 bullish})$ $\text{for } i=2,3,4:\quad H_i \le H_1 \ \text{ and } \ L_i \ge L_1 \quad (\text{contained})$ $C_5 > O_5 \quad \text{and} \quad C_5 > C_1 \quad (\text{breakout close})$ Why each line? Line 1 = trend proof; line 2 = pullback is contained (weak); line 3 = trend resumes with a new higher close. Every symbol traces back to a WHY above.

Falling Three Methods: flip all inequalities — $C_1 < O_1$ , containment same, $C_5 < O_5$ and $C_5 < C_1$ .
