Understand power hour - closing session
4.4.5· Stock-Market › When to Trade — Timing & Sessions
WHAT hai Power Hour?
WHY closing price itna matter karta hai?
- Mutual funds aur ETFs close ke basis par price (NAV) hote hain.
- Index values, futures settlement, aur option expiries close ko reference karti hain.
- Charts (daily candles) apni body open→close se draw karte hain, toh close din ki kahani define karta hai.
Kyunki itna paisa legally ya contractually closing price se tied hai, participants apni trading wahaan concentrate karte hain. Woh concentration hi power hour hai.
WHY "smile"? (Shape ko first principles se derive karo)
Market activity ko information + deadlines se driven samjho.
Step 1 — Open surge. Raat bhar news accumulate hoti hai (earnings, global markets, macro data). Open par, woh saari pent-up information simultaneously price hoti hai. WHY spike? Kyunki overnight orders + reactions ek hi instant par release hote hain.
Step 2 — Midday lull. Late morning tak overnight news digest ho jaati hai. Bade institutions pause karte hain; lunch hota hai; kam nayi catalysts aati hain. WHY low volume? Kam forced participants → thinner order flow → wider spreads par calm prices.
Step 3 — Power Hour surge. Deadline wapas aati hai. WHY ab?
- Index funds ko end-of-day weights match karne ke liye trade karna padta hai → market-on-close (MOC) orders pile up hote hain.
- Day traders ko positions flat karne padte hain (no overnight risk) → forced buying/selling.
- Algorithms (VWAP/TWAP execution) remaining shares ko back-load karte hain apna target close se pehle hit karne ke liye.
- Din ki news ko act karne ka "last chance" milta hai.
Toh session par volume ek U (smile) trace karta hai:
jahan open hai, close hai, pehla term open se decay karta hai, aakhri term close mein grow karta hai, aur quiet floor hai. HOW padhein: edges par do exponential "walls", beech mein flat.

HOW trade karo isko (80/20 core)
HOW use karo power hour ko, practically:
- Confirmation, prediction nahi. Close aksar din ka trend confirm karta hai (ek strong din apni high par closing = conviction). WHY? Kyunki overnight risk carry karne wale holders last moment par real money se vote kar rahe hote hain.
- Exits ke liye liquidity. Ek badi position sell karni hai? Power hour sabse deep book offer karta hai → kam slippage.
- Whipsaw trap se bachein. Zyada volatility matlab fake breakouts. Relative volume use karo, gut feeling nahi.
Forecast-then-Verify
Recall
Forecast: Koi chart dekhne se pehle, predict karo ki average large-cap din par kis ghante mein widest bid-ask spread hoga: open, midday, ya close? Verify: Midday ghante mein usually widest spread hota hai (sabse kam participants, thin book), jabki open aur close mein high volatility ke bawajood tightest spread hota hai — high volume ⇒ bahut saare competing orders ⇒ tighter spread. Surprised? Woh neeche steel-man hai.

Recall Feynman: ek 12-saal ke bachche ko explain karo
Imagine ek class jahan homework final bell par due hota hai. Class ke start mein sab scramble karte hain kyunki teacher ne abhi instructions diye hain. Beech mein, sab chill kar rahe hote hain. Lekin last few minutes mein — sab panic karte hain finish karne aur bell se pehle submit karne ke liye! Stock market bhi waise hi hai: last hour ek rush hai kyunki traders ko market close hone se pehle apni buying aur selling finish karni hi hoti hai. Woh rush power hour hai, aur jab bell bajti hai tab ki price "final grade" hai jo sabko yaad rehti hai.
