Volume same hai, lekin iron box ko uthana bahut mushkil hai. Density is sawaal ka
jawaab hai: "Ek given space (volume) mein kitna stuff (mass) packed hai?"
Yeh separate karta hai ki cheez kitni badi hai aur kitni bhaari hai us size ke liye.
Kisi substance ka mass per unit volume :

jahan m = mass (kg), V = volume (m³), aur ==ρ == (rho) = density in kg/m³ .
Yeh definition kyun? Mass akela nahi batata ki matter kitna "concentrated" hai — ek tonne

Kisi substance ki density ka ratio, reference (4 °C par paani) ki density se:
SG = ρ water ρ substance , ρ water = 1000 kg/m 3
Yeh dimensionless hai (koi units nahi) — ek pure number hai.
Ratio kyun? Kyunki yeh turant bata deta hai "kya yeh paani mein float karega?" aur bina units
liye materials compare karne deta hai. SG > 1 → doobta hai, SG < 1 → tairata hai (paani mein).
4 °C par paani kyun? Paani 4 °C par sabse dense hota hai (≈ 1000 kg/m 3 exactly), jo ek
clean, reproducible standard deta hai.
Worked example SG se value padhna
Gold ka SG = 19.3 hai. Yeh step kyun? Iska matlab hai gold paani se 19.3 × zyada dense hai,
to ρ gold = 19.3 × 1000 = 19 , 300 kg/m 3 . Numerically, paani mein
SG, density in g/cm 3 ke barabar hota hai — isliye ρ gold = 19.3 g/cm 3 .
Maano tum masses ko volumes ke saath mix karo jo simply add ho jaate hain (koi chemical shrinking nahi).
Step 1 — Total mass: m = m 1 + m 2 . Kyun? Mass conserved rahta hai jab cheezein combine karte ho.

Worked example 1 — Iron block ka volume nikalo
Iron ka ρ = 7800 kg/m 3 hai. Mass = 39 kg . V nikalo.
Step 1: ρ = m / V ⇒ V = m / ρ rearrange karo. Kyun? Hume volume chahiye, use isolate karo.
Step 2: V = 7800 39 = 5 × 1 0 − 3 m 3 = 5 L .
Yeh step kyun? 1 m 3 = 1000 L , to 1000 se multiply karo.
Worked example 2 — Paani aur oil ke equal volumes mix karna
Paani ρ 1 = 1000 , oil ρ 2 = 800 kg/m 3 , equal volumes.
Step 1: Equal volumes → arithmetic mean use karo. Kyun? Masses alag hain lekin volumes equal hain.
Step 2: ρ = 2 1000 + 800 = 900 kg/m 3 .

Worked example 3 — Forecast-then-Verify (SG → float?)
Ice ka SG = 0.92 hai. Forecast: SG < 1 to yeh tairega; submerged fraction ~92% hona chahiye.
Verify: Tairne ka matlab weight = buoyancy: ρ i ce V g = ρ w V s u b g , to
V V s u b = ρ w ρ i ce = SG = 0.92 . Exactly 92% submerged ✓.
Common mistake Classic errors ko steel-man karna
(a) "Bhaari cheezein hamesha dense hoti hain."
Kyun sahi lagta hai: heavy ↔ density dono "weight" se related lagte hain. Fix: ek bhaari log
phir bhi tair sakta hai — jo matter karta hai woh hai mass per volume , akela mass nahi. 1000 kg
ka ek air balloon ek 1 g ke sand grain se kam dense hai.
(b) Mix karte waqt densities ko directly average karna.
Kyun sahi lagta hai: averaging natural lagti hai. Fix: Tum sirf equal
volumes ke liye average kar sakte ho. Equal masses ke liye harmonic mean ρ 1 + ρ 2 2 ρ 1 ρ 2
