Cell ko ER ki zaroorat kyun hai?

Cell sirf ek soup ka bag nahi hai. Jo molecules secrete, membrane-insert, ya specific organelles mein bheji jaani hoti hain, woh cytoplasm mein freely float nahi kar sakti — unhe ek jagah chahiye jahan unhe fold, modify, aur sort kiya ja sake, general traffic se alag. ER wahi sorting & manufacturing hub hai, jo nuclear envelope ke saath physically continuous hai — isliye "instructions" (nucleus se mRNA) bilkul paas hi produce hoti hain.

  1. Ek free ribosome cytosol mein mRNA translate karna shuru karta hai.
  2. Agar protein "export/membrane ke liye" hai, toh uske amino acids ki pehli stretch ek signal peptide hoti hai — ek hydrophobic address tag.
  3. Ek Signal Recognition Particle (SRP) yeh tag pakad leta hai aur translation pause kar deta hai.
  4. SRP, RER membrane par SRP receptor se dock karta hai → ribosome ek translocon (protein channel) par park ho jaata hai.
  5. Translation dobara shuru hoti hai; growing chain ko channel ke zariye lumen mein thread kiya jaata hai.
  6. Lumen ke andar: chaperones ise fold karte hain, glycosylation sugars add karta hai, disulfide bonds bante hain.
  7. RER membrane ka ek piece transport vesicle ban ke bud off karta hai → Golgi jaata hai.

SER apna kaam kaise karta hai?

  • Lipid synthesis: SER membrane mein embedded enzymes phospholipids aur cholesterol banate hain → yeh membrane hi hai, toh SER literally pure cell ke liye nayi membrane grow karta hai.
  • Steroid hormones: testes/ovaries/adrenal cortex mein, SER cholesterol ko → testosterone, estrogen, etc. mein convert karta hai.
  • Detoxification (liver): enzymes (e.g. cytochrome P450) drugs/poisons mein –OH groups add karte hain → unhe water-soluble banate hain → excretable. Zyada drinking/medication liver SER ko proliferate kara deta hai (zyada capacity).
  • Ca²⁺ storage: muscle mein SER ko sarcoplasmic reticulum kehte hain; yeh Ca²⁺ pump karta hai aur contraction trigger karne ke liye release karta hai.
